Rape is one of the most serious criminal offences that can be perpetrated. The PPS is committed to dealing with such offences in a fair and effective manner. This document provides guidance about how decisions to prosecute, in relation to rape, are taken and the assistance which will be given to victims and witnesses.
The policy document applies to all types of rape, including marital and relationship rape, acquaintance and stranger rape, both against male and female victims.
