The Public Prosecution Service has considered the recommendation of the Independent Review Report that there should be a closer working relationship with police.
The present arrangements with police provide for a close working relationship. For example, the PPS gives detailed prosecutorial advice to police, on occasion, before a person is charged with an offence. The advice may, for example, focus on what evidence would be required to prove a particular offence.
The PPS is awaiting the final report of the Police Ombudsman of his investigations into matters arising from the judgement of Mr Justice Weir in R -v- Hoey. The Director has been informed that this report will be sent to him during the course of this month.
