The Public Prosecution Service (PPS) today published details of the £5.789M payments it made to external counsel during the financial year 2016-17.
The counsel fees expense incurred by the Public Prosecution Service for 2015-16 was £4.928M but actual payments related to current and prior year.

Panel members are selected by means of a recruitment exercise conducted in 2012 and revised in September 2015. Successful applicants demonstrated the necessary breadth of skills and professional competence to prosecute on behalf of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
